Mike Huckabee, Repeal Health Care Act Now

Mike Huckabee has once again joined forces with Ken Hoagland, most widely known for his advancement of the Fair Tax.  Huckabee is one of the first potential presidential candidates to actively campaign for repealing Obamacare.

Ken Hoagland, Chairman of Repeal Healthcare Act, writes in his December 23rd newsletter:
“Upon penalty of law we are required to participate in a HealthCare system that, by law, Washington insiders wrote themselves out of,” said Hoagland. “It's so typical and so completely wrong,” he said.

Back in March the President said that "people will have choice and competition just like members of Congress have choice and competition." And in December when he signed the bill into law the President said that every American would be, "…part of a big pool, just like federal employees are part of a big pool. They'll have the same choice of private health insurance that members of Congress get for themselves."

It turns out that the President and others, including Congressional Committee staff who wrote the bill decided that the “public pool” was not quite good enough for themselves or their families. The committee staff that drafted the legislation opted themselves out.

Under withering criticism from Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and Oklahoma’s Senator, Tom Coburn, most Congressional staffers were written into the bill last March. But by December, Majority Leader Reid included language taking senior administration officials and himself out of the bill. Mr. Grassley and Coburn’s amendment to close this loophole and extend the law to themselves and senior members of the executive branch was then blocked by Senate Democratic leaders.

“They used their personal power to protect themselves from this new law. Now we’ll use our combined personal power as citizens to do the same thing for ourselves,” said Ken Hoagland.

Yesterday, Charles Krauthammer stated that he thought House Republicans should vote Yes to repeal Obamacare, but he cautioned against trying to defund it:
a “death by a 1000 paper cuts” strategy. Krauthammer said that is a trap that will allow Obama and the Democrats to blame Republicans for the chaos that will come when implementation of ObamaCare provisions fail. ObamaCare is “intrinsically chaotic,” he said, and defunding attempts will throw a life-line to Obama that he can use to blame Republicans for the chaos.

The last thing we want to do is throw Obama a life-line in 2012. The Democrats in Congress shoved Obamacare down our throats.  Republicans were voted in to STOP it.  We want to ensure a successful strategy for our Republican nominee, hopefully Mike Huckabee, to make the necessary healthcare reforms, not a healthcare overhaul.

  1. Which of these rights is going to ruin health care? Why shouldn't we have what most civilized countries have?

    • No Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions for Children Under Age 19. Clarifies that health plans have to accept sick children before 2014 and cover all of a child’s illnesses if that child already had coverage. These protections will apply to all types of insurance except for individual policies that are “grandfathered,” and will be extended to Americans of all ages starting in 2014.

    • No Arbitrary Rescissions of Insurance Coverage. Prohibits insurers and plans from rescinding coverage except in cases involving fraud or an intentional misrepresentation of material facts, not for unintentional mistakes. Insurers and plans seeking to rescind coverage must provide at least 30 days advance notice to give people time to appeal. There are no exceptions to this policy.

    • No Lifetime Limits on Coverage. Prohibits the use of lifetime limits in all health plans and insurance policies issued or renewed on or after September 23. More than 100 million Americans currently have health coverage that imposes such lifetime limits.

    • Restricted Annual Dollar Limits on Coverage. Phases out annual limits on how much employer plans and new individual health plans pay for health care and bans limits on essential health benefits by 2014. For plan years starting on or after Sept. 23, insurers will be allowed to set annual limits no lower than $750,000; on Sept. 23, 2011, the limit rises to $1.25 million; and on Sept. 23, 2012, it increases to $2 million. Employers and insurers can ask for a delay if they can demonstrate that their current annual limits are necessary to prevent a significant loss of coverage or increase in premiums.

    • Doctor Choice. The new rules make clear that health plan members are free to designate any available participating primary care provider as their provider. The rules allow parents to choose any available participating pediatrician to be their children’s primary care provider. They also prohibit insurers and employer plans from requiring a referral for obstetrical or gynecological (OB-GYN) care. These policies apply to all individual market and group health insurance plans except those that are grandfathered.

    • Removing Insurance Company Barriers to Emergency Department Services. Prohibits health plans and insurers from charging higher cost-sharing (co-payments or co-insurance) for emergency services that are obtained out of a plan’s network. The rules also set requirements on how health plans should reimburse out-of-network providers. This policy applies to all individual market and group health plans except those that are grandfathered.

  3. There is too much money spent for plastic surgery, especially after removal of cancerous tissue. The plastic surgery is often unsuccessful, plus can hide cancer if it comes back.

The cost of Hospice care has grown out of control. Perhaps hospice care is not needed. Families used to care for family members if they become terminally ill and should do so again.

  4. In the USA we pay twice as much per-person on heath care as the next most expensive country in the world. At the same time our life expectancy is 30th. Paying the most for a mediocre outcome is wrong. What would Mike Huckabee propose to fix this problem?
