Earlier this week we saw Mike Huckabee leading amongst potential Republican candidates in Texas. This lead holds as shown in the competition against incumbent Obama.
1. Mike Huckabee 55% Barack Obama 39%
2. Mitt Romney 47% Barack Obama 42%
3. Newt Gingrich 48% Barack Obama 43%
4. Sarah Palin 47% Barack Obama 46%
5. Rick Perry 45% Barack Obama 45%
Favorability Ratings:
1. Mike Huckabee 51%/30% (+21%)
2. Mitt Romney 40%/37% (+3%)
3. Newt Gingrich 38%/44% (6%)
4. Rick Perry 42%/50% (-8%)
5. Sarah Palin 42%/53% (11%)
From PPP Blogspot, "Huckabee's favorability rating is a 51/30 spread and he blows Obama out of the water. But none of the other GOP hopefuls come close to matching that appeal. Romney's favorability is narrowly in positive territory at 40/37, but Gingrich's is negative at 38/44, and Palin's is even worse at 42/53."
PPP surveyed 892 Texas voters from January 14th to 16th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-3.3%.
Nuggets from the Data:
Huckabee gets 92% of Republicans, with Obama at 85% of Democrats.
Obama wins independent support against every opponent but Huckabe who wins independents 50-31
Huckabee is also the only candidate to take more Democrats (12%) than President Obama takes Republicans (6%).
So looks like Mike Huckabee is our Yellow Rose of Texas
